DAWN’S APPROACH: TEENS RISING EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMS™

MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness means noticing, with self-compassion, what’s happening in the present moment—without self-criticism, self-judgment, or trying to change it. Mindfulness is a somatic practice that literally changes your brain!

promotes trauma healing, improves focus & grades, positively impacts mental, emotional, & physical health, lowers stress & anxiety, increases self-awareness, compassion, empathy, & emotional regulation, and helps create positive relationships.

MOVEMENT

Movement is a powerful practice we use to promote healing. We move our bodies to transform our lives. I offer intentional practices that are powerful & non-verbal transformational tools. It doesn’t matter how you look when you move, it only matters how you FEEL!

Learn More

Benefits of Movement Include:
promotes emotional healing, improves mental health & happiness, releases of big emotions, fosters integration of mind, body, spirit, & emotional well-being, acts as a non-verbal communication tool, and it’s fun!

SOMATIC PSYCHOTHERAPY AND PRACTICES

Somatic psychotherapy is a type of body-centered psychotherapy where I use mind-body/somatic practices to help clients heal. The reason I use these practices with clients is because they are powerful and the mind, body, spirit, and emotions are all connected to one another. When we experience traumatic, emotional, or stressful events, these events impact  our brains and nervous system, which cause changes within our bodies and brains (ex: physical pain, anxiety, etc…). Because trauma impacts the nervous system, simply talking about trauma does not help us release it. In fact it can re-traumatize some clients. Somatic therapy addresses the root cause or underlying impact trauma has on our nervous systems and brings the unconscious into consciousness.

Learn More

As we develop awareness of the mind-body connection–with specific experiential tools and practices–we bring the unconscious into conscious awareness and release the wounds that remain stored in our bodies from these past events. The goal is to help you connect more deeply to yourself, your desires, and your intuition as you break the cycle of behaviors, feelings, and relationships that keep you stuck, so you can live the life you were meant to live. A few of the somatic practices I use include mindfulness, dance, yoga poses, guided meditation, breathwork, relaxation exercises, etc…

NATURE CONNECTION

As Dr. Shefali says, “Nature is the antidote to disconnection.” Nature has a profound positive impact on our mental health. Today, smartphones, computers, and television cause more disconnection than ever.  When possible, I incorporate nature into our work together.

Learn More

Benefits of nature connection, according to many research studies, include: decreases anxiety, sadness, fatigue, stress/cortisol levels, & anger, improves positive affect, concentration, energy, sense of well-being & connection with self and others.

JOURNALING

Journaling is a beautiful way to privately express feelings we may not feel safe expressing to others. I offer intentional journaling exercises to help clients become more introspective and work through issues with which talking may not help.

Learn More

Benefits of journaling include:
promotes healing of emotional pain, increases self-awareness & insight, offers safe space to release big emotions & express anger or shame, offers shifts in perception & perspective of life, purpose, and situations, and improves writing and communication.

SELF-CARE PRACTICES

Self-care is SO important–not just for ourselves–but for our girls, too! Can you imagine how many extremely overwhelmed moms with daughters I’ve counseled who had zero self-care practices in place—over the course of their lives?? Too many, but I was that woman, too!

Learn More

Self-care isn’t just going to the spa, getting your nails done, or going for a run. There’s SO much more to these practices. As we work together, I offer girls multiple self-care practice ideas for the mind, body, emotions, and spirit, as we develop core routines that can morph and shift as our girls grow. Self-care practice can help you manage stress, anxiety, overwhelm, depression, and more. The self-care practices taught will last a lifetime! The beauty of what I teach is that these practices are or can be super short and simple, yet intentional.

I offer these tools to girls and young women BEFORE they enter into a serious relationships, starts college, begin working, enter marriage and possibly motherhood. I think about how much better my life would have been if I’d been taught these practices BEFORE leaving home. Thankfully, our girls can learn these life tools and foundations for living NOW.

EXPERIENTIAL FUN

Healing, transformation, and learning don’t have to be completely serious–it can be fun, too!

I offer multiple experiential exercises, practices, and activities for girls to engage in as a group, in pairs, and alone.

Benefits if experiential activities are: engagement, reflection, transformation, and fun!

GUIDED MEDITATION

Guided meditation is not only a POWERFUL tool for letting go of what no longer serves us, but it also helps us envision what we want to create in our lives. I’ve been practicing guided meditation for 30 years so I know firsthand what a transformational practice this can be. ***Some forms of meditation can be contra-indicated with untreated trauma and are not used.**

Learn More

A few benefits of guided meditation are: decreases stress, promotes centering & healing, helps connect to your intuition, and shifts perspectives.
